The Story of Frankie Knuckles

Frankie Knuckles (1955–2014) is widely regarded as the “Godfather of House Music.” Born in New Jersey, USA, he began his career as a DJ in New York City during the 1970s. Influenced by disco, soul, and early electronic sounds, he quickly developed a unique style.

In the early 1980s, Frankie moved to Chicago, where he played at iconic clubs like the Warehouse. It was here that he pioneered the sound that became known as house music—an innovative blend of disco, soul, funk, and electronic beats.


His groundbreaking DJ sets and productions, including classics like “Your Love” and “Baby Wants to Ride,” helped shape and popularize the genre worldwide. House music, fueled by Frankie’s creativity, grew into a global movement influencing countless artists.


Throughout his career, Frankie Knuckles earned numerous awards and remained a vital figure in the music scene until his passing in 2014. His legacy lives on through the timeless house music he helped create and the countless fans he continues to inspire.
